Lennox breaks Vettori's 22-yr-old record with 5 for 19 as New Zealand bowl out West Indies for 138, win by 5 wickets

West Indies batting lineup suffered a collapse as they were bowled out for 138 in 36 overs in the second ODI of the series, losing to New Zealand by five wickets at Providence Stadium, Guyana. Jayden Lennox registered the best bowling figures by a Kiwi spinner against West Indies in ODIs, taking five wickets for just 19 runs, helping New Zealand register a comprehensive win to level five-ODI series 1-1.

Lennox broke former captain Daniel Vettori's record for best bowling figures by a Kiwi spinner against West Indies. In 2004 at Lord's, Vettori took five wickets for 30 runs in 9.2 overs. On West Indies soil, no Kiwi bowler had taken a fifer or four-fer before Lennox. In 2007, Vettori had take three wickets for 39 runs.

Lennox runs riot, Windies lose 10 wickets for 75 runs

BlackCaps skipper Mitchell Santner won the toss and opted to bowl first. The opening partnership was broken in the 11th over by Michael Bracewell with the wicket of Ackeem Auguste who scored 18 runs from 27 balls. In the next over, Santner knocked over John Campbell for a 41-ball 43. Lennox was introduced into the attack in the 17th over and he got skipper Shai Hope's wicket. In his next over, Sherfane Rutherford got bowled too. Santner continued to bowl from one end and Keacy Carty was the fifth to fall. West Indies went from 63 for no loss to 108/5 in the 22nd over.

Lennox continued to terrorise Caribbean batters. Gudakesh Motie got bowled after scoring just one run from 16 deliveries. Matthew Forde became Lennox's fourth victim in consecutive overs. Bracwell returned to the attack and dismissed Amir Jangoo lbw. Jangoo scored 24 runs from 41 balls. In the 35th over, Alzarri Joseph was run out by Mark Chapman's direct hit. Lennox wrapped up West Indies' innings by getting teenager Vitel Lawes out lbw for a four-ball duck. He completed his fifer in his eighth over. West Indies were bowled out for 138 in 36 overs.

New Zealand lose 5 wickets but get over the line easily

In the run chase, Will Young was able to thread the field and find boundaries. But, Alzarri ended his stay at the crease in the eighth over, getting him out lbw. The opener scored 28 runs from 31 balls, featuring five fours. In the next over, Chapman was run out for a two-ball duck. A few overs later, Henry Nicholls got out to Motie trying to play a sweep shot. He scored 18 runs from 29 balls. On a spin-friendly track, Tom Latham and Daryl Mitchell showed patience. But, their partnership was broken in the 21st over with Mitchell getting out stumped to Khary Pierre for 43-ball 28. Pierre also dismissed Dean Foxcroft, bowled for a four-ball duck.

The target posted by the hosts was far from threatening. On the fourth ball of the 33rd over, Bracewell hit a boundary as New Zealand registered a comprehensive victory. Latham remained unbeaten for 37 off 61 balls. Bracewell contributed with 24 from 26 balls. The third ODI of the series is scheduled to take place on July 16 at the same venue.
