As the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction comes the franchises have made critical player retention decisions that will shape their squads for the upcoming season of the cash-rich league. The team made a lot of tough calls as five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) released Ishan Kishan, and Delhi Capitals (DC) released their skipper Rishabh Pant. Some franchises spend a lot of money on Indian cricketers and there are franchises like of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders who spend more money on overseas cricketers than Indians. 

Each franchise had the option to retain up to five capped players, two uncapped players, and a total of six players across both categories.

IPL franchises that spent more money on overseas cricketers than Indians

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

Lucknow Super Giants released their skipper KL Rahul and they spend most of their money on Nicholas Pooran. The franchise retained the WIndies cricketer for a whooping 21 Crore.

Gujarat Titans

Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans also come in the tally as their most expensive retention for IPL 2025 is Rashid Khan. The franchise retained the Afghanistan all-rounder for INR 18 crore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Last year IPL finalists spent most of their money on overseas cricketers as they retained Heinrich Klaasen for 23 Crore, Pat Cummins for 18 crore and Travis Head for 14 crore.

Abhishek Sharma: 14 cr

Nitish Kumar Reddy: 6 cr

Heinrich Klaasen: 23 cr

Travis Head: 14 cr. 

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will enter the tournament as defending champions and Sunrisers Hyderabad were the last edition's finalists.
