India's veteran pacer Umesh Yadav has been allegedly cheated of Rs 44 lakh by his manager Shailesh Thakre. The friend-turned-manager told Umesh that he is purchasing a plot for the cricketer in Nagpur City, Maharashtra, as per police on January 21.

Umesh has lodged a complaint against Thakre for cheating. Thakre who was unemployed nearly a decade ago was appointed as manager by the Indian pacer on July 15, 2014. So far, no arrest has been made.

Thakre gained the trust of Yadav over time. He started handling all the financial affairs of Umesh Yadav. He used to handle Yadav's bank account, income tax and other financial tasks," the official told PTI.

As per the official, Yadav wanted to buy laund in Nagpur. "Thakre located a plot in a barren area. He told Yadav he would get it for Rs 44 lakh. Yadav deposited Rs 44 lakh in Thakre's bank account.  However, Thakre purchased the plot in his name," he said.

Yadav decided to lodge the complaint when he learnt about the fraud and asked his friend to transfer the plot in his name. To the cricketer's surprise, Thakure refused to return the money or transfer the property.

"Yadav lodged a complaint with police in Koradi, following which a case was registered under sections 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (Cheating and thereby dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code," the official added.

The Nagpur-born pacer made his international debut against Zimbabwe in an ODI in 2010. In the next two years, he made his T20I and Test debut as well. So far, he has played 54 Tests, 75 ODIs and nine T20Is. The 35-year-old pacer has 183 wickets to his name in the international arena.

Umesh played in the Test series against Bangladesh and picked up seven wickets. He has been selected in the 17-member Test squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy which will commence at his homeground in Nagpur.
