Reportedly, BCCI is likely to have honest conversations with Rohit and Kohli regarding their ODI future.

Cricket Australia has already announced special farewell for Rohit and Kohli in October.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to have honest conversations with ODI skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Rohit and Kohli have retired from T20Is and Tests. They remain committed to the ODI format but there is a question mark whether they will remain fit for the ODI World Cup 2027.

"Yes, it will be discussed soon. We still have more than two years for the next World Cup (November 2027). Both Kohli and Rohit will be pushing 40 by then, so, there has to be a clear plan ahead for the big event as our last win was in 2011. We also need to try out a few youngsters in time,” a source told PTI.

Rohit and Kohli were expected to be seen in the Indian jersey for the first time since ICC Champions Trophy 2025 triumph on Bangladesh tour. However, the white-ball tour was postponed. After the T20 Asia Cup 2025, India's next white-ball assignment is on Australian soil.

The BCCI acknowledges the immense contributions of the two senior players. The source said that the two batters won’t be forced into drawing curtains on their international cricket career.

"Look, both Kohli and Rohit have made huge contributions to white ball cricket for the team and the sport in general. They have achieved almost everything.

"So, I don’t think nobody’s going to force their hand, but there will be some honest and professional conversations before the next ODI cycle starts to see where they stand mentally and physically. It depends on that,” the source added.
