39 runs were scored off the final over of Sri Lanka Lions' innings.

Sri Lanka Lions captain Thisara Perera joined the elite list of batters like Yuvraj Singh, Herschelle Gibbs, Kieron Pollard and others who have hit six consecutive sixes in an over. In the Asian Legends League 2025 Eliminator clash against Afghanistan Pathans, Perera smashed six sixes in the final over against Afghanistan's left-arm spinner Ayaan Khan. The all-rounder's carnage filled 108-run knock off just 36 balls helped Sri Lanka Lions win the match by just eight runs against the Asghar Afghan-led side.

Fernando, Perera put Afghans under pressure

Sri Lanka lost two early wickets in the powerplay overs. Leo Fransisco and Tillakaratne Dilshan were dismissed cheaply. Perera arrived at the crease in the 10th over after Lasith Lakshan was run out. In the next over, Perera made his intentions clear and hit Ashraf Pathan for two sixes. Meanwhile, Mevan Fernando reached his fifty from 39 balls. In the 17th over, Perera reached his fifty from just 23 balls. Before the final over, the left-handed batter hit two sixes each off the 18th and penultimate over. He was batting on 72 off 30 balls before the final over was bowled.

Perera hits six sixes on the trot

Ayaan started off with a wide before conceding three consecutive sixes. Under pressure, Ayaan bowled another wide. But Perera's rhythm was not broken and he hit another six. Ayaan bowled another wide and Perera followed it up with two sixes to finish off the innings. His knock was laced with 13 sixes and just two fours. He shared a 155-run partnership for the fourth wicket from just 62 balls. On the other end, Fernando contributed with an unbeaten 56-ball 81. Sri Lanka Lions posted a mammoth total of 230/3.

However, this is not the first time Perera has hit six sixes in an over. He became the first Sri Lankan to do so in 2021 during his 13-ball 52 in a List A (One-Day) game for Army Sports Cricket Club.

Afghan puts up a fight but in vain

In the run chase Afghanistan lost two early wickets as well. In the middle overs, Ayaan and Asghar Afghan pushed the scoring rate. Asghar went on a six-hitting spree. Ayaan was dismissed in the 15th over. He scored 52 runs from 38 balls including eight fours and a six. Asad Pathan went berserk straightaway as required run rate was slipping out of the grasp. Meanwhile, Afghan reached his fifty from just 24 balls in the 16th over.

In the 17th over, Afghan gave Perera a taste of his own medicine by smashing three sixes in the 22-run over. Vikum Sanjaya ruled out the possibility of an anti-climax as he got rid of Afghan and Pathan. The skipper departed after scoring 70 runs from 31 balls including eight sixes. Pathan returned to the pavillion after a 10-ball 21 cameo. Afghanistan could not score a single boundary until the last ball. They managed to post 204/7 on the board and lost by 26 runs.
