Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli played in the previous edition of Champions Trophy as well.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary is jubilant after Rohit Sharma-led India lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy in Barbados. After the match, seniors Virat Kohli, captain Rohit and spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20Is. While a transition in the T20I side is certain, there were uncertainties around whether the senior players will be available for the Champions Trophy 2025 which is scheduled to take place in February-March on Pakistan soil. Shah assured that a similar squad will be in action in the Champions Trophy which will be in ODI format.

"Transition has already happened with three greats retiring," Shah was quoted as saying by PTI.

"The way this team is progressing, our target is to win the World Test Championship final and Champions Trophy. There will be a similar squad playing there. The seniors will be there," he added.

Kohli has won the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup but is yet to win the World Test Championship (WTC) trophy despite India making it to the final twice.

Rohit and Kohli were part of the side that played in the last edition of Champions Trophy in England. In 2017, India lost to arch-rivals Pakistan led by Sarfaraz Ahmed. The Champions Trophy will also be a chance for the Indian team to assert their dominance.
