Afghanistan's senior all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has faced a 15 per cent match fee fine for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 clash against South Africa on February 11 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.
“Nabi was found to have breached Article 2.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “Disobeying an Umpire’s instruction during an International Match.” the ICC said in a statement.

Before the 14th over of the run chase, Nabi was not happy with Lungi Ngidi wearing yellow wristband on both hands. The on-field umpires didn't agree and it led to a heated altercation. Skipper Aiden Markram got involved too but Ngidi tried to douse the flames by removing the wristband from his bowling arm.

Nabi’s off day against Proteas
Ngidi conceded just six runs from five balls. Nabi couldn't find a boundary against the Proteas pacer. The all-rounder was dismissed for five runs off six balls by George Linde in the 16th over.
In the historic second super over game, Nabi was sent in to bat when Afghanistan needed 24 runs to win. He faced a dot ball against left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj and lost his wicket off the next. He batted ahead of Rahmanullah Gurbaz who hit three sixes off the remaining four balls but they weren’t enough to take Afghanistan over the line.
Earlier, Nabi had a poor outing with the ball as well. From two overs, he conceded 20 runs and remained wicketless.
Afghanistan on brink of elimination
Afghanistan put up a fight but lost to Proteas in the historic double super over. This is their second defeat of the T20 World Cup 2026. The semifinals of the previous edition are on the brink of elimination. Rashid Khan's men will need several permutations and combinations to go their way if they are to progress to the Super 8 stage of the tournament. Currently, Afghanistan are placed third on the Group D points table with two losses.
