India scored the fastest team hundred in T20 World Cup history

Team India achieved the historic feat in the clash against Namibia

Team India etched their name into the record books during their T20 World Cup 2026 encounter against Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on February 12. The Men in Blue registered the fastest team hundred in the history of the tournament, reaching the milestone in just 41 deliveries. This feat eclipsed the previous record held by the Netherlands, who achieved the same mark in 42 balls against Ireland back in 2014.

After Namibia won the toss and elected to field, the decision quickly proved costly. Despite an early breakthrough when Sanju Samson was dismissed for a brisk 22 off 8 balls, Namibia was unable to stem the flow of runs. In-form opener Ishan Kishan took command, bludgeoning a 20-ball half-century and becoming only the third Indian batter, joining Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, to score a fifty within the powerplay of a T20 World Cup match.

Kishan’s explosive innings eventually came to an end at 61 runs off 24 balls, but not before he had firmly placed India in a position of total control. His aggressive start not only dismantled the Namibian bowling attack but also reaffirmed his status as a key pillar at the top of the order, following a series of standout performances leading into the mega tournament.

In addition to their record-breaking speed to the hundred-run mark, the Indian team established several other milestones during their dominant performance against Namibia. India's batting lineup exploited the fielding restrictions to amass a massive 86/1 during the powerplay phase. This explosive start now ranks as the fifth-highest powerplay total ever recorded in T20 World Cup history. The current record for the most productive powerplay belongs to the West Indies, who hammered 92/1 against Afghanistan during the 2024 tournament. Other notable entries on this list include the Netherlands' 91/1 against Ireland in 2014 and England’s aggressive 89/3 against South Africa in 2016.

India ended up posting a massive total of 209/9 despite Gerhard Erasmus' brilliant spell of 4/20 in which he gunned down Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel.
