Tamil Nadu have breached the 500-run mark which England came awfully close to few months back. In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022, Tamil Nadu broke the world record for highest score in List A cricket (One-Day cricket). With help of Narayan Jagadeesan's record-breaking 277, Tamil Nadu posted a mammoth total of 506/2 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru against Arunachal Pradesh on November 21.
The previous highest total belonged to England who scored 498 with Phil Salt, Dawid Malan and Jos Buttler scoring centuries.
The previous highest score by an Indian side in List A cricket came on June 19, 2018. India A side led by Shreyas Iyer scored 458/4 against Leicestershire during their tour of England. Prithvi Shaw (132), Mayank Agarwal (151) scored centuries whereas Shubman Gill scored a 54-ball 86 as Leicestershire bowlers were smashed around the park.
Tamil Nadu openers Sai Sudharsan and Jagadeesan also set the record for highest opening partnership in List A cricket. They shared 416-run partnership from 231 deliveries. Sudharsan scored 154 runs from 102 deliveries including 19 fours and two sixes before getting dismissed by Techi Noria. On the other end, wicketkeeper-batter Jagadeesan who has been in phenomenal form this season scored 277 runs from 141 deliveries. His record-breaking knock was studded with 25 fours and 15 sixes.
Jagadeesan broke the two-decade-old record of England batter Alistair Brown who scored 268 runs from 160 deliveries for Surrey against Glamorgan. In 2014, current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma came close to breaking the record but got out after scoring 264 runs from 173 deliveries against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens. His innings had a record-breaking 33 fours and nine sixes.
For Arunachal Pradesh, Chetan Anand turned out to be most expensive bowler. He conceded 114 runs from his full quota of 10 overs. The only consolation for him was the wicket of Jagadeesan in the 42nd over. Had it not been for Anand, Jagadeesan would have become the first batter to score a triple century in List A cricket. Arunachal Pradesh used as many as eight bowlers. Madan Paul was the most expensive of the lot with an economy rate of 15.66 as he leaked 47 runs from just three overs.
