England's fiery middle-order batter Harry Brook made massive gains in ICC Men's Test batter rankings after a 109-run knock in the second Test of the three-match series against West Indies. Brook jumped four places to reach the third position.
As Root moved up, Pakistan's Babar Azam, New Zealand's Dary Mitchell, Australia's Steve Smith and India captain Rohit Sharma slipped one place each. Joe Root who scored his 32nd Test century did not move up but moved closer to Kane Williamson's rating points. He is just eight points away from dethroning Williamson.
Apart from Rohit, another Indian batter who slipped in rankings is top-order batter Shubman Gill. He is now ranked 20th. Other Indian batters in top 10 are Yashasvi Jaiswal (8th) and Virat Kohli (10th).
Other changes in ICC Test batter rankings
After registering scores of 0 and 3, opener Zak Crawley slipped four places to 17th position. His opening partner Ben Duckett was rewarded for scores of 71 and 76. The southpaw went up six places to reach the 16th position.
England middle-order batter Ollie Pope moved up eighth places to 21st after a century and a half-century in the Nottingham Test. Despite the 241-run loss in the second Test, skipper Kraigg Brathwaite, Joshua de Silva and Kavem Hodge moved up in rankings as well. Brathwaite climbed two spots to 40th, Silva went up seven spots to 61st whereas Hodge's 21-place leap helped him reach 75th on the list.
Changes in ICC Test bowler rankings
There were only a few notable changes in the bowler's rankings. Kuldeep Yadav moved up one spot to 14th. As Caribbean pacer Kemar Roach slipped to 18th, Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam took his spot. The only major change in the top 20 was England pacer Chris Woakes who took six wickets. Woakes moved up four spots to 20th position.
Jason Holder managed to take just one wicket and slipped five places to 25th. Mark Wood slipped one place to 27th as well.
Two West Indies pacers moved up in the rankings. After taking six wickets, Jayden Seales moved up 10 places to 34th. With five wickets, Alzarri Joseph climbed two places to 33rd.
