An all-around Gujarat Giants defeated UP Warriorz by 81 runs in a lopsided Women's Premier League game played here on Monday, with Beth Mooney smashing an undefeated 96. Mooney missed the opportunity to score the first century for any player this WPL season, but her 59-ball undefeated knock with 17 fours helped the Gujarat Giants to a commanding 186/5, easily defeating the hosts.

The Giants moved up from fifth to second place in the points standings as UPW struggled to make 105 from 17.1 overs while chasing a target of 187. Prior to the game, UPW was ranked third; they are currently in fifth position. After a terrible start, UP Warriorz fell to 36/5 in the eighth over, and their batting lineup was completely destroyed by the Giants' bowlers, who were unable to muster any fight.

In the first over, Deandra Dottin (2/14) took two wickets, eliminating Kiran Navgire (0) and Georgia Voll (0). Essential breakthroughs were made by Kashvee Gautam (3/11), Meghna Singh (1/21), Tanuja Kanwar (3/17), and Ashleigh Gardner (1/9). When the conditions had gotten comparatively easier, UP Warriorz's middle order failed to mount a comeback, and their top order struggled against the early movement with the new ball due to poor technique and poor judgment.

Grace Harris was the only specialist batter on her team to score runs, hitting three fours to reach 25 off 30 balls after surviving a close leg-before-appeal early on. The middle-order Indian hitters for the UP Warriorz were unable to put any pressure on the scorers. Shweta Sehrawat scored five, captain Deepti Sharma made six, and Vrinda Dinesh was dismissed for one.

Uma Chetry made 17 and Chinelle Henry struck a late 14-ball 28 with three fours and two sixes, but their efforts were only partially successful in cutting the lead. Earlier, the Gujarat Giants scored 186 for five, leaving Mooney stranded at 96 not out. In her innings, Mooney hit as many as 17 boundaries off of just 59 balls, but she was only able to reach five after the last over required 10 runs to reach a triple-digit total.

Following an early blow from Dayalan Hemalatha (2), left-handed Australian batsman Mooney added 101 runs for the second wicket off 68 balls to consolidate for the Giants with India's Harleen Deol (45). With her drives and flicks, which easily pierced the field, Mooney was aggressive on both sides of the wicket.
