Cristiano Ronaldo, who is one of the biggest if not the biggest name in football, has had to undergo a bumpy ride lately. His career has seen quite a lot of turbulence amid the Manchester United fiasco which has now left him virtually devoid of any club. A survey carried out by a Portuguese newspaper called 'A Bola' revealed some shocking revelations which may be unsettling for diehard Ronaldo fans. The survey conducted by the Portuguese newspaper ahead of Portugal’s round of 16 match against Switzerland at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, had 70% of respondents wanting the 37-year-old Ronaldo benched.

The survey asks respondents: “Should Cristiano Ronaldo keep his title in the National Team?” The results definitely tilt towards a negative sentiment for Portugal's ace striker.  A few of the comments were published by the newspaper.

“What is the reason, why have you been a starter? He wasn’t a starter at the club, he’s not in shape, he says he wants to fight for titles, but every 7 days he’s sick, he doesn’t feel like training, whatever the excuse. .Such rude, I’ve never seen!” said one Portugal fan.

"He shouldn’t have even been called up after everything that happened in Manchester. He had the opportunity to be the leader in this selection, but he is being an obstacle. He’s crumbling the image he’s built of himself. Lose him and lose the selection. This is no longer CR7, it’s CR37," said another irate supporter.

After a short-lived stay at one of the Premier League's biggest clubs, the downward trend for Ronaldo has continued. Ronaldo has not quite clicked at World Cup in Qatar where he is showing signs of sluggishness. His lone goal came against Ghana and that was also off a penalty other than that he has been invisible for the team's contribution for the most part. This has led fans from Portugal to believe that the team would do better without their ace player.
