Cristiano Ronaldo delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday, scoring twice as Portugal thrashed Uzbekistan 5-0 in a Group K match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 41-year-old captain became the first player in history to score in six different World Cup tournaments.

Ronaldo opened the scoring in the sixth minute, adding a second before halftime to put Portugal firmly in control. Further goals from Nuno Mendes, an own goal by Uzbekistan, and Rafael Leao completed the rout at NRG Stadium. The result helped Portugal bounce back strongly after criticism following an earlier goalless draw.

The brace not only marked Ronaldo as Player of the Match but also saw him surpass Eusébio as Portugal’s all-time leading scorer at the World Cup with 10 goals. He celebrated emphatically, shouting “I’m back” after the opening strike.

Meanwhile, after the match, Ronaldo was asked about his biggest rival of the game, and the Al Nassr striker decided to bounce back in style. What should have been an interview nof is tunning night turned into questions about Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo finally scored a brace for his side this World Cup; however, post-match, the focus quickly shifted when reporters pressed the Portuguese on the Inter Miami forward who has been in prolific form earlier in the tournament. Ronaldo responded:

“I couldn’t care less about others... Mbappé also scored.”

The comment has fueled debate among fans, with some praising Ronaldo for focusing on Portugal’s result and others seeing it as a sign of lingering rivalry. Ronaldo explained the team’s progress and preparation for upcoming matches, including a clash against Colombia. At 41, Ronaldo continues to defy expectations in what could be his final World Cup, proving his enduring legacy on the global stage.
