Senegal defeated Morocco in the AFCON final with a score of 1-0 in extra time to become the Africa Cup of Nations champions for the second time. After the end of goallas draw in 90 minutes, Morocco saw their title slipping away when Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz missed the crucial penalty, which went right into the hands of Edouard Mendy.
Not just this was a heartbreaking moment from Diaz, who was seen crying after missing the penalty, but also the Moroccan side lost the title in 50 years, which was on their home soil. The team missed the golden opportunity after winning the title since 1976. That was the only time they won the AFCON trophy.

Despite the loss, the runners-up were awarded the Fair Play Award for their behaviour and discipline throughout the competition. Diaz was given the tournament’s top scorer award as he netted five goals in seven games.
Senegal’s Sadio Mane won the Player of the Tournament award after recording two goals and was instrumental in Senegal’s title race. With Senegal winning the AFCON title for the second time, here is the list of the awards and the winners of the tournament.
