Athletic Bilbao are all set to host Manchester United on Thursday, 01st May for the first leg of the ongoing UEFA Europa League semifinals. The hosts are hot favorites to win the clash against a struggling Manchester United.
Athletic Bilbao are pushing for a Champions League qualification in the La Liga as they are fourth overall in the table with Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona in front of them. Bilbao will play the clash against Manchester United in their iconic Estadio de San Mames and if they secure a win the semis, then Estadio de San Mames will also host the finals of the Europa League as well.
Nico Williams has been one of the impressive players for Athletic Bilbao this season. They are a tough team to break as their defense is top notch. On top of it, they have also conceded just 26 goals so far in the La Liga, which shows their defensive prowess. Bilbao are also a team which keeps the ball well as they are very organized and are efficient too. Athletic Bilbao managed to defeat Rangers 2-0 in the quarterfinals and book a spot in the semis.
On the other hand, Manchester United are reeling behind in the fourteenth spot in the ongoing Premier League 2024-25 season. There only hope of a silverware this season is Europa League as they are out of FA Cup and Premier League race. The Red Devils were able to complete one of the greatest comebacks in the history of Europa League as they defeated Lyon 7-6 on aggregate to advance to the semis.
The match against Lyon was an absolute blockbuster as the first leg ended in a 2-2 draw. But, the second leg, Old Trafford saw a performance from the United team which has been missing from a couple of years as they scored thrice in the last ten minutes of added extra time.
Athletic Bilbao's Oihan Sancet is out due to a hamstring injury. Manchester United are navigating through their injury issues as they have Joshua Zirkzee (thigh), Ayden Heaven (leg), Lisandro Martinez (torn ACL), Toby Collyer (leg) and Diogo Dalot (calf) out of clash against Bilbao.
