Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has hinted that Real Madrid's leadership and players did not have faith in Xabi Alonso. He also said that the Spanish coach remains a top class coach and wished him well for the next project.
Hansi Flick reflects on Xabi Alonso's exit from Real Madrid
Interacting with the media ahead of the Copa del Rey game against Real Racing Club, Flick continuously said that he did not want to dive into the top of Alonso departing from Real Madrid. Although, he went on to say that a manager has no chance of staying at a club when the decision-makers start losing trust. He said:
“It’s not my business. I have a very good relationship with Xabi. We met in Leverkusen and have stayed in touch. He’s a fantastic coach. I wish him all the best in his next big project. All the best for him. It’s part of football. The club has to believe in you, and so does the team. Those who make the decisions have to do so. But it’s not my business, I don’t want to talk about it, because a coach’s job is very complicated, we have a lot of responsibilities.”
Xabi Alonso recorded a win over Barcelona earlier this season, when they met in the league, but lost 3-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final earlier this week. It was his sixth loss since taking over the Real Madrid duties in June last year.
Former Real Madrid manager echoed Hansi Flick's comments on Xabi Alonso
Real Betis manager Pellegrini talked about Xabi Alonso's exit from Real Madrid, saying he felt sorry for the young tactician. He said that there were no proper reasons for Los Blancos to cut ties as they are still close to the leaders, Barcelona. He said:
"I really feel for Xabi because he's a coach with a brilliant career ahead of him. Judging someone's work after just three or four months is not right in my opinion, even if I don't have all the internal information. Real Madrid is still competing on three fronts. Every process needs time to develop. As a coach, everything depends on the maturity of the management."
Los Blancos announced the departure of Xabi Alonso less than 24 hours after they faced defeat in the Spanish Super Cup final to Barcelona in Saudi Arabia. The manager commented on his time at the club, thanking the players, the club's leadership, and the fans for their support in the past seven months.
