The Premier League announced on December 20 that the match, interrupted when Luton's captain, Tom Lockyer, suffered a cardiac arrest on the field, will be replayed in full.

The league match between Bournemouth and Luton on December 16 was called off after Lockyer collapsed during the second half, necessitating on-field medical attention at Vitality Stadium.

Luton indicated that players from both teams "were not in the right frame of mind to continue the game."

The score stood at 1-1 when the decision to abandon the match was made. The league has confirmed that the rescheduling of the game will occur later in the season.

In a statement, the league clarified that the collective decision to abandon the match in the 59th minute involved input from match officials, players, managers of both clubs, and the Premier League.

The league expressed its gratitude to the medical personnel and others involved, recognising their prompt response to a highly distressing situation. According to the latest update from Luton, the 29-year-old defender, Lockyer, remains hospitalised and is undergoing tests, showing responsiveness and stable condition as of the night of December 16.

Lockyer had previously experienced a collapse during a game in May, subsequently undergoing heart surgery.

After collapsing during Luton's Championship playoff final triumph over Coventry, Lockyer underwent surgery in June to rectify an atrial fibrillation. He made a successful comeback at the beginning of the new season and had played in 15 matches across all competitions before the game on December 16.

In their statement on December 17, Luton Town conveyed appreciation for the support received and requested patience and understanding from both fans and the media during Lockyer's ongoing medical assessments. The incident led to the suspension and eventual abandonment of the match, which was tied 1-1 at the time, with the clock frozen at 65 minutes. Lockyer received approximately seven minutes of on-field medical attention at Bournemouth's Vitality Stadium.

Lockyer is a centre-back who plays for the Wales national team.
