Bruno Fernandes criticised the referee after Manchester United were denied a second penalty in the 2-2 draw against AFC Bournemouth.

Fernandes also questioned VAR’s inaction, insisting similar incidents should be judged consistently.

Michael Carrick secured his second draw as Manchester United's interim boss against Bournemouth in the Premier League. After the 2-2 draw, Bruno Fernandes expressed his frustration, saying his team truly deserved to be awarded a second penalty, which could have changed the outcome of the game.

Bruno Fernandes lambasts match referee

Bruno Fernandes, kicked off the scoring in the 61st minute of the game from the penalty spot following a foul was attempted on Matheus Cunha.

After four minutes, Manchester United's Amad Diallo was pushed inside the box and surprisingly no penalty was awarded.

Reacting to the incident, Fernandes said that the match referee was completely wrong and if a penalty was awarded then the result of the game could have been different.

"Frustration onto ourselves because we could've gone 2-0 up and from that, we conceded another goal. Not getting a penalty and then we get a penalty against where it's the same situation as Amad... one is one, one is not," said Fernandes.

Fernandes further added that he understands that it is tough for the referee to give two penalties to the same team in a single game. But he showed his concern about VAR not getting involved.

"I know it's difficult for the referee to give two penalties to the same team in one game but I don't understand why VAR doesn't get involved in that situation or with Harry (Maguire) because either one is a penalty and so is the other or none of them are," he added.

Manchester United's strong hold in the Premier League table

So far in the season, Michael Carrick has lost one game as Manchester United's interim boss. In the last 10 Premier League games, The Red Devils have lost one game and secured two draws, which is a very great achievement for the former Manchester United midfielder.

Currently, The Red Devils stand at the third place in the Premier League, with 55 points in hand after 31 games.
