What did Cristiano Ronaldo say about Lionel Messi?
Many view Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as footballing titans as they have combined 12 Ballon d'Or amongst them. Ronaldo, who recently scored his 920 career goal did acknowledge the fact that the former Barcelona legend has the upper hand in just one department.
Both Ronaldo and Messi were present at the 2015 Ballon d'Or ceremony as Messi won the award for the fifth time. During the event, Ronaldo told the reporters,
His left foot is pretty good - better than mine. I'd like to have his left foot.
At that time, Neymar used to play for Barcelona and he interrupted Ronaldo by saying that he'd ' take both of his legs'.
Messi on the other hand gave a very subtle reaction and expressed his admiration for Ronaldo.
But when the same question was asked by the reporters to Messi, he told them that he respected Ronaldo but there is nothing that he wishes he had.
Envy is a very negative trait. Cristiano has many great qualities which every player would like to have. We each have our individual styles.
Ronaldo's comments came just two months after he told BBC that he was better the Messi.
In my mind, I'm always the best, Ronaldo said.
I don't care what people think, what they say. In my mind, not just this year but always, I'm always the best. It's opinions, I respect the opinions. Messi is better than me, but in my mind I am better than him. So it's simple.
However, Ronaldo managed to win the next two Ballon d'Ors after Messi's triumph in 2015 but Messi went on to win the prestigious award three more times in 2019, 2021 and 2023.
