On some instances, it has been a penalty that opens the door for the victory. A lot of times, it has been that they (East Bengal) have conceded a goal. So yeah, it will be a great football match, and we will try to use our weapons to get the victory for sure."
On the other side, Mohun Bagan, the reigning Indian Super League champions, haven't tasted Durand Cup victory since 2000. The Mariners have had a respectable run this year, finishing second in Group A and racking up impressive victories over teams like Bangladesh Army and Punjab FC.
The team's coach, Juan Ferrando, offers a fresh perspective on the upcoming match: "No (payback). This is a pre-season tournament for us. It's important to check different players in different positions and check some details about our system. My job is to prepare the plan, help the players and try to win the trophy," he said following the semifinal win.
Given Mohun Bagan's 23-year title drought in the Durand Cup and East Bengal's sustained brilliance, the upcoming finale promises to be a riveting affair.
