Liverpool suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Manchester City in the quarter-final of the FA Cup on Saturday, March 4 at Etihad Stadium, Manchester.

After the game, Liverpool's former defender, Steve Nicol lambasted the Red's performance as Mohamed Salah missed a crucial penalty in the 65th minute of the game. Nicole criticised the Egyptian forward's poor touch.

"This is unprecedented, How can you go from almost winning the Player of the Year last year to this? To the fact that now you don’t look as though you know where the goal is. The fact is, he had plenty of time to get it under control and pick his spot. But his touch is so poor," Nicol told ESPN.

He further added that the Egyptian forward lacked strength and had a pathetic body shape.

"Where’s the power? He’s obviously, his whole body shape’s wrong. And even the penalty kick. He doesn’t have his head up. You watch the majority of people take penalty kicks nowadays. They’re all watching where the goalie is," added Nicole.

"But Mo is so concentrated and so unsure that he has to concentrate on the ball and make sure he gets a good strike. And so all that other stuff that you would normally do with your head up, because you’re confident, has completely and utterly disappeared," concluded Nicole.

Mohamed Salah's dip in form

Mohamed Salah has endured a tough season for Liverpool in the ongoing season, as the Egyptian forward has managed to score only five goals and six assists in the Premier League. Meanwhile in the UEFA Champions League, Salah has recorded only three goals and two assists.

Unwanted records for Liverpool

Erling Haaland was the star of the game as he scored another hat-trick for the Cityzens and Antoine Semenyo joined the party by scoring the fourth goal in the 50th minute.

This was Liverpool’s third loss to Pep Guardiola’s side, having already suffered two defeats against Manchester City in their earlier Premier League meetings.

With the third blow against the Cityzens in the current season, Liverpool became the first reigning side in the last 89 years to face three defeats against Manchester City across all competitions.

Amid all of this, Manchester City brought an end to a 53-year win drought against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Next challenge for Liverpool

With an elimination in the FA Cup Campaign, Liverpool are only alive in the UEFA Champions League, as they will lock horns with PSG in the first leg of the quarter-final at the Parc des Princes, Paris.
