Indian defender Anwar Ali faces 4-month ban, Mohun Bagan to be paid Rs 12.90 crore compensation as AIFF PSC rules in their favour

In addition to the compensation and the fourth-month ban on Anwar Ali, his parent club Delhi FC and East Bengal have faced sporting sanctions as well.

The All India Football Federation slapped Indian centre-back with a four-month suspension. The defender was found guilty of illegally terminating his four-year contract with Mohun Bagan Super Giant. As per the committee, Anwar terminated his contract with Mohun Bagan Super Giant without just cause. 
 

"In accordance with Article 20.4, the Player is restricted from playing in official matches for a period of 4 (four) months, a period that shall commence from the date of notification of this decision," the six-page judgment signed by AIFF Player Status Committee’s (PSC) deputy chairperson Savio Messias deputy mentioned. 
 

Hefty compensation for Mohun Bagan

The PSC of the AIFF has also banned Anwar's Parent club Delhi FC and East Bengal registering players for next two transfer windows. Mohun Bagan are eligible for a compensation of Rs 12.90 crore from Anwar Delhi FC and East Bengal.
 

The Rs 12.9 crore compensation includes the remaining value of the contract which is Rs 8.40 crore, Rs 2 crore paid to Delhi FC as per loan agreement and Rs 2.50 crore under the "damages suffered by the club". The sum also includes the investments made by Mogun Bagan.

"Under Article 20.3, and subject to any provisions to the contrary in contract, the Committee holds all three parties i.e. Anwar Ali, East Bengal FC and Delhi FC jointly and severally liable for the above amount (Rs 12.90 crore)." 
 

"In accordance with Article 20.4, the Player is restricted from playing in official matches for a period of 4 (four) months, a period that shall commence from the date of notification of this decision," the judgement further added.

What if the compensation isn’t paid?

If the compensation is not paid within a period of 45 days, the club will be banned from registering new players for up to three registration periods. Also, Anwar's four-month suspension will be extended up to six months.
 

However, Anwar and the club can make an appeal against AIFF PSC's decision. They will have to file an appeal within the specified time as per AIFF Disciplinary Code.
