In a revelation that’s set hearts racing across Madrid, Real Madrid legend Karim Benzema has dropped a tantalizing hint about reuniting with the club that shaped his legacy—though not in the way fans might expect. The 37-year-old striker, who left Los Blancos in 2023 after 14 glittering seasons, admitted he’s already plotting a post-retirement return to the Spanish capital.

While Benzema remains committed to Al Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League for now, his latest comments have reignited hopes of a reunion with Real Madrid’s leadership. But what role does he envision? The answer lies in a bond deeper than the pitch.

Karim Benzema’s emotional pledge to Real Madrid

Benzema’s connection to Real Madrid transcends goals and trophies. In a candid interview with Mega, the French icon revealed his desire to remain intertwined with the club’s leadership long after hanging up his boots.

“When [Florentino Pérez] signed me in 2009, I told my father that as long as he was at Real Madrid, I would be there,” Benzema confessed. “He was the first person I called when I decided I was leaving… When I retire, I want to be close to Florentino.”

While coaching isn’t off the table, Karim Benzema acknowledged its challenges. “Coach? I don’t know—it seems more complicated than being a player,” he admitted. Instead, his focus centers on an advisory or executive role, mirroring paths taken by Madrid legends like Zinedine Zidane and Raul. The striker’s humility shone through as he credited the next generation, stating his exit was partly to make way for young stars Vinícius Jr. and Rodrygo:

“The youngsters were ready.”

A legacy cemented in Madrid’s DNA

Benzema’s potential return aligns with Real Madrid’s tradition of embracing legends off the field. Former stars like Jorge Valdano and Emilio Butragueño have thrived in executive roles, while Raul and Álvaro Arbeloa now shape the club’s future through youth development. Even Zidane, once an advisor, ascended to become a two-time Champions League-winning manager. Benzema’s leadership and tactical acumen—honed during his record 354-goal tenure—make him a natural fit for such a legacy role.

Life in Saudi Arabia: Contentment with a caveat

Currently in his second season with Al Ittihad, Karim Benzema insists he’s enjoying his Saudi adventure.

“I feel good here,” he said, comparing his routine to his Madrid days. “I train, hit the gym, and sometimes dine out or visit the beach.” Yet, the striker acknowledged the surreal fame that follows him: “You can’t walk down the street here either—people are crazy about football.”

Despite the glamour, his heart seems tethered to Madrid. The city’s pull, combined with his reverence for Pérez, suggests his Saudi stint is merely an interlude before a Madrid homecoming.

What’s next for Benzema—and Real Madrid?

While Benzema’s playing days at the Bernabéu are over, his influence on the club’s future could be just beginning. President Florentino Pérez, known for valuing loyalty, is unlikely to ignore such a heartfelt pledge from a player who ranks second in Madrid’s all-time scoring list. Whether as a mentor, executive, or ambassador, Karim Benzema’s return would bridge eras and inspire a new generation.

For now, fans can dream—and trust that when Benzema says, “I would be there,” he means it.
