Lionel Messi's MLS return ends in frustrating draw for Inter Miami

In a series of disappointing events, Lionel Messi's club return turned sour, as Inter Miami endured a 2-2 draw against Columbus Crew in a MLS clash on Sunday, August 2 at the Nu Stadium in Miami. The Argentine icon was introduced in the 53rd minute, just two weeks after Argentina's loss to Spain in the FIFA World Cup final, receiving a warm welcome from the home fans.

Although Messi came close to scoring a goal but missed those chances. Earlier in the game, Luis Suarez managed to continue his great form by scoring a goal in the 16th minute, netting his seventh goal in the last four matches.

Inter Miami lost their early advantage in the 34th minute when former Manchester United and Real Madrid defensive midfielder Casemiro inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, bringing Columbus Crew level at 1-1.

However, the host managed to regain the advantage before Noah Allen recorded a header, giving a 2-1 halftime advantage. Columbus struck back late in the game, with Brais Mendez marking his debut with a curling free-kick in the 84th minute to rescue a point.

Unfortunately, the outcome put an end to Miami's six-game winning streak and kept them second in the Eastern Conference behind Nashville, who drew 2-2 at DC United.
