Cristiano Ronaldo has dropped a shocking update on his footballing future which might not please his fans. The Portuguese icon has suggested that the 2026/27 campaign may mark the end of his illustrious playing career.

Earlier, Ronaldo had confirmed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be his last appearance at the major tournament ahead of Portugal facing Spain, which was the end of the nation’s campaign following a 0-1 loss in the Round of 16. Ronaldo might now be into his last club football season before he announces his retirement.

In an interview with Vogue magazine, the 41-year-old Portugal captain said:
“This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy.”
The comments come shortly after Ronaldo married long-term partner Georgina Rodríguez in an intimate ceremony in Cascais, Portugal. He told the magazine his post-football future is “all mapped out,” listing plans that include more travel, spending time with family, and playing padel. The Al Nassr forward added:
“I have so many things to keep me busy that to tell you just one thing is hard.”
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United player further said:
“Because football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways, not just one… continue to enjoy what I’ve earned – what we’ve earned. Because after all it’s been 25 years with a lot of sacrifice.”
Ronaldo’s contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr runs until June 2027. He recently confirmed that the 2026 World Cup, in which Portugal reached the last 16, would be his final appearance at the tournament. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner remains one of the most prolific goalscorers in football history and is closing in on the landmark of 1,000 career goals.
