Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr was left disappointed as he didn't win the Ballon d'Or. Vinicius believes that he did not get the prestigious award because of his fight against racism. After Spain midfielder Rodri became the first Manchester City player to win Ballon d’Or, Vinicius took to X and expressed his disappointment.
“I will do it 10 times if I have to. They’re not ready,” Vinicius posted (translated to English).
According to a report by Retuers, Vinicius' management staff confirmed that his post was directed at his stand against racism leading to him missing out on winning the Ballon d'Or award.
The winner of the award is decided on the basis of votes by a panel of journalists from the top 100 FIFA-ranked nations.
The Brazillian has been vocal against racist insults hurled at him when he represents Real Madrid in Spain.
Vinicius gets support
The 24-year-old got support from his Real Madrid teammates.
“FOOTBALL POLITICS X. My brother, you are the best player in the world and no award can say otherwise. Love you my bro,” Eduardo Camavinga posted on social media.
Brazillian women's team legend Marta posted a video on her Instagram account questioning the Ballon d’Or snub.
“I waited all year for Vini Jr to be deservedly recognised as the best player in the world and now they come to tell me that the Ballon d’Or is not for him?” asked the 38-year-old.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid was named the Men's Club of the Year. Also, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was named Men's Coach of the Year at Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris. Also Real Madrid’s new recruit Kylian Mbappe won the Gerd Muller Trophy alongside Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.
