Pep Guardiola is all set to attend his last game as the manager of Manchester City, which will be the end of an era. Following this, curiosity about his managerial career has been raised. Will he return to coaching in the future? Here is what Guardiola himself has stated.

Will Pep Guardiola return to managing after Manchester City departure?

Guardiola has confirmed he will step away from football management for a period after his decade-long tenure at the Etihad Stadium concludes at the end of the 2025/26 season.

The Sky Blues manager signalled the end of an era that transformed the club into a dominant force in English and European football. However, it will be “for a while.” In a press conference, the 55-year-old Spanish coach stated:

“I’ll be out of management for a while, that is my feeling right now.”

The announcement comes as Manchester City prepares for life without its most successful manager, who has delivered around 20 major trophies, including multiple Premier League titles and a Champions League crown.

Guardiola is expected to manage his final matches before departing, with former assistant Enzo Maresca widely reported as the leading candidate to succeed him. The club has indicated it will name the expanded North Stand at the Etihad Stadium in his honor and retain him in an ambassadorial role within the City Football Group.

Guardiola’s decision follows intense speculation and reflects his desire for rest after a high-pressure period. He previously took a sabbatical between stints at Barcelona and Bayern Munich. While many expect interest from national teams or top clubs in the future, the manager has stated the need to recharge, telling reporters he must prove to himself the value of stepping back. His exit marks the close of one of modern football’s most influential coaching reigns.
