Daniel Berger forced to withdraw from BMW Championship ahead of final round

Daniel Berger’s 2025 PGA Tour season came to an abrupt and disappointing end as he was forced to withdraw from the BMW Championship before his scheduled final-round tee time on Sunday. The 32-year-old cited a finger injury that left him unable to continue, shutting the door on his hopes of making it to the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake.

Finger injury halts Daniel Berger’s playoff push

During Saturday’s third round, NBC cameras captured Berger icing his finger after what appeared to be a painful swing. Though he managed to complete his round, the discomfort proved too much to overcome the following day. His withdrawal meant that his chances of advancing to the FedEx Cup finale officially ended.

Daniel Berger entered the BMW Championship ranked No. 33 in the FedEx Cup standings, just outside the top 30 needed to qualify for the Tour Championship. At 2-over par and tied for 29th through 54 holes, he needed at least a three-way tie for 33rd or better to secure a spot at East Lake. Instead, his injury cut his playoff journey short.

A season of mixed results

Despite the abrupt ending, Berger’s 2025 campaign showed signs of steady progress. He made 16 cuts in 20 starts and recorded nine top-25 finishes. However, a return to the winner’s circle has continued to elude him, with his last PGA Tour victory dating back to 2021.

This season also marked just his second full year back on Tour after a lengthy layoff due to a back injury suffered at the 2022 U.S. Open. The setback sidelined him for multiple seasons, making his return to competitive form an uphill climb.

Looking ahead to 2026

While the withdrawal ended his 2025 FedEx Cup hopes, Daniel Berger still has positives to build upon. Currently ranked No. 36 in the world, the four-time Tour winner has secured entry into all of next year’s PGA Tour signature events by finishing inside the top 50 of the FedEx Cup standings.

For Berger, staying healthy will be the key to rediscovering the form that once made him one of the most consistent performers on Tour. Though Sunday brought disappointment, his resilience and recent steady play leave room for optimism heading into the next season.
