Lewis Hamilton celebrated his 40th birthday this week, stepping into what promises to be a pivotal season in his illustrious Formula One career. The seven-time world champion began a new journey with Ferrari at the start of 2025, marking a significant shift both professionally and personally. Back in 2022, Hamilton also revealed plans to honor his mother’s maiden name, a deeply personal decision that reflects his values.

Chasing an Eighth World Title

Hamilton’s move from Mercedes to Ferrari is fueled by his ambition to claim an unprecedented eighth F1 title. His most recent championship victory came in 2020, but he ended his final season with Mercedes in 7th place. Determined to defy expectations, Hamilton is preparing to make a strong statement at the Australian Grand Prix, which opens the 2025 season in March.

Joining an Exclusive Club

Hamilton’s decision to continue racing at 40 places him among an elite group of drivers. Since 2000, only four other F1 drivers have competed post-40. It has been over three decades since a driver in their 40s won a race—Nigel Mansell achieved the feat in 1994. However, Hamilton has consistently challenged norms throughout his career, as demonstrated by his personal announcement in 2022.

Honoring Family Legacy

"I'm really proud of my family's name: Hamilton," Hamilton said in 2022. "Actually, none of you might know that my mum's [sur]name is Larbalestier. And I'm just about to put that in my name.

"Because I don't really fully understand the whole idea of why, when people get married, the woman loses her name. I really want her name to continue on with the Hamilton name," he shared, as reported by the Express.

Excitement for the Future

In a recent LinkedIn post, Hamilton expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season with Scuderia Ferrari. He wrote:

"I could not be more excited for the year ahead. Moving to Scuderia Ferrari, there's a lot to reflect on.

"To anyone considering their next move in 2025: embrace the change. Whether you're switching industries, learning a new skill, or even just taking on new challenges, remember that reinvention is powerful. Your next opportunity is always within reach. Here's to 2025 - a year of embracing new opportunities, staying hungry, and driving forward with purpose. Let's make it one to remember. Andiamo #newjob."

Preparations for the 2025 Season

Hamilton will soon join Ferrari at their Italian headquarters to gear up for the new season. The team’s kick-off event is scheduled for February 18 at London’s O2 Arena, followed by the unveiling of the new Ferrari car the next day. Pre-season testing begins a week later, giving Hamilton and his teammate Charles Leclerc just over a month to familiarize themselves with their new vehicle.
