Vinesh Phogat gets four pro bono Paris Bar lawyers for her CAS hearing; Check who will represent Indian wrestlers case for silver medal

A day after she was disqualified from the final of the 50 kg freestyle wrestling event at the ongoing edition of the Paris Olympics 2024 due to being 100 grams overweight than the limit for her weight category, Vinesh Phogat made a stunning declaration on social media about her retirement from wrestling. She made a heartbreaking post which left the whole country emotional. She was the first Indian woman wrestler to make it to the Final of the Olympics, but she didn't even get a chance to win a silver medal. However, a few hours before this announcement, Vinesh had appealed against her disqualification with CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sports).

 

"Mother, wrestling won against me, I lost, sorry, your dream, my courage is all broken, I don't have any more strength than this now. Goodbye wrestling 2001-2024. I will always be indebted to you all sorry," wrote Vinesh Phogat in an emotional post from her official ‘X’ account formerly known as Twitter.

 

When will CAS hearing take place for Vinesh Phogat's silver medal?

 

The CAS hearing at 6pm Paris time (9:30 pm IST). Vinesh will be represented by 4 pro bono lawyers made available by the Paris Bar. Subsequently, India are trying to get their lawyer involved in the case. The names being considered are Harish Salve and sports law expert Vidhushpat Singhania.


There is a possibility that this could drag into multiple hearings over the next few days and a verdict may take time to come.

 

When will CAS give their decision?

The Court of Arbitration for Sports will give their final verdict on Vinesh Phogat's appeal against her Paris Olympics 2024 disqualification on August 8. The decision is estimated to come after 5:30 PM IST. Four lawyers will be representing Vinesh's CAS appeal.

 

If CAS rules on Vinesh’s favour IOC will have to award a joint silver to Vinesh. CAS will reply to Vinesh in the morning (around 5:30pm IST) if CAS rules in Vinesh’s favour then she will be awarded a joint silver. CAS verdict will be binding on IOC," told sources close to Sports Tak.

Joelle Monlouis, Estelle Ivanova, Habbine Estelle Kim, and Charles Amson are the names of the four lawyers who will be addressing Vinesh Phogat at the CAS hearing. They are pro bono lawyers with the Paris Bar for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
