In a riveting clash between the seasoned pro and the young prodigy, 21-year-old world champion Deotale showcased his brilliance. Having clinched the World title in Berlin, Deotale displayed near-perfect form, conceding only a single point. He triumphed over the experienced 34-year-old contender with a score of 149-147, proving that the new generation is ready to take the mantle.
The competition began with high intensity as both competitors delivered perfect tens in the opening End. In the second End, Ojas edged ahead when Abhishek scored a nine on his last shot of the round. As the contest progressed, Ojas maintained his fierce intensity, notching another perfect ten in the third End. Abhishek, on the other hand, scored an eight on his second shot of that round.
Although Ojas's streak of perfect tens concluded in the fourth round, he sustained his lead over Abhishek. The final End saw both archers returning to form, each hitting perfect tens. Ojas eventually clinched the gold medal, marking it as India's 24th at the Asian Games 2023.
Indian archers concluded their participation at the Asian Games with a record-breaking collection of nine medals, marking an unprecedented achievement in the sport. This remarkable tally surpassed India's previous best at the Incheon 2014 Games, where they clinched three medals.
Aditi, the current world champion, spearheaded the achievement, securing India's landmark ninth medal in archery at the Games. Despite not being at her peak performance, the 17-year-old triumphed over Indonesia's Ratih Zilizati Fadhly in a decisive bronze play-off, winning with a score of 146-140. Her recent accolade of the World Championship title in Berlin only two months prior added weight to her rising stature.
Adding to the medal rush, Jyothi further stamped India's dominance. Already a gold medalist in the mixed pair and women's team events at the Games, she clinched her third consecutive gold. She showcased resilience to overcome a challenging opponent, South Korea's So Chaewon, with a close score of 149-145. This feat not only underlined her prowess but also emphasized India's growing stature in Asian archery.
