Satwiksairaj-Chirag got the better of Indonesian pair of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri

The premier Indian men's doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty clinched the Singapore Open 2026 title on Sunday after a thrilling come-from-behind victory. Facing off against Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, the Indian pair bounced back from a first-game deficit to seal the championship with a scoreline of 18-21, 21-16, 21-16.

The handsome win marks the world number four duo's first title of the 2026 season and breaks a nearly two-year championship drought. Satwik and Chirag showed immense resilience on the court, battling for one hour and 12 minutes to ultimately overpower the third-ranked Indonesian pair.

With this win, Satwiksairaj-Chirag has also become the first-ever pair from India to capture a doubles title at the Singapore Open. The victory marks a deeply emotional milestone for Satwik and Chirag, whose last tournament win dates back to the 2024 Thailand Open. In the nearly two years since that victory, they suffered the heartbreak of reaching four different finals only to finish as runners-up each time, making this breakthrough in Singapore all the sweeter.

The Indians had to overcome past ghosts to claim the crown, entering the final with a 1-2 deficit in their head-to-head record against the world No. 3 Indonesian pair—including a painful quarterfinal exit at the Malaysia Open back in January. True to form, the match started as a steep uphill battle after they dropped a tightly contested opening game. However, Satwik and Chirag locked in, drastically raising their intensity and dictating the longer rallies to completely flip the script on their opponents.

This championship victory was the perfect exclamation point on a spectacular week for the Indian tandem, who had already pulled off a massive upset by stunning the top-seeded reigning world champions, Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea, in the semifinals.

The sheer relief and ecstasy of breaking their title drought was on full display the moment the winning point was sealed. Both players collapsed flat onto the court in pure exhaustion and joy. Satwik celebrated with a special baby-themed gesture, while an ecstatic Chirag let out a roaring cry before leaping onto his partner. The duo wrapped up the unforgettable afternoon by dancing on the court, thoroughly savoring their long-awaited return to the top step of the podium.
