Khamzat Chimaev is Next in Line for Dricus du Plessis
Following the culmination of the event, During the post-fight press conference, du Plessis made it clear that Khamzat Chimaev would be next in line for him.
Upon reflection, while a champ vs. champ fight between du Plessis and Pereira would do great business, Cormier agrees with du Plessis that he needs to get through Chimaev before thinking about adding a second belt to the collection.
“Alex is huge though,” Cormier said. “He looked massive compared to Dricus. And I love that Dricus has these big goals, I just think he has work to do at middleweight before he starts thinking about going up — Khamzat Chimaev being problem No. 1.
“Watching Dricus [on Saturday], I don’t know that Chimaev just drives across the mat and takes him down. He’s so good at what he does. ... He’s the man. Dricus du Plessis is the man, and he once again proved that [at UFC 312].”
