Good news for tennis fans as they will be treated to a special duo at the last Grand Slam of the year. Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz will partner in the US Open mixed doubles event next week. The pair received a wildcard into the competition, which runs on 25-26 August, several days before the main singles draw begins.

The revamped two-day mixed doubles format, introduced to attract top singles stars, features a 16-team field and a $1 million prize shared by the winning pair. Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, is making her competitive return to Flushing Meadows for the first time since 2022.
Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz to play together at US Open 2026? Here is all you need to know
After stepping away from the sport, she returned this summer, competing in singles at Wimbledon and doubles with her sister Venus. She is not entered in the women’s singles draw in New York. Alcaraz, a seven-time Grand Slam winner and the reigning US Open champion, will use the event as part of his return from a right wrist injury that has sidelined him since April. He is expected to defend his singles title later in the fortnight.
The Spaniard reacted positively on social media, posting “Let’s gooooo!” alongside a fire emoji and tagging Williams to tease the partnership on the court. Other high-profile pairings in the field include World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka with 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, and several other top singles players.
Williams previously won the US Open mixed doubles title in 1998. The partnership brings together two of tennis’s biggest stars and is expected to generate significant interest in the mixed doubles competition. Meanwhile, while Alcaraz will be marking his return, World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the New York event following a knee injury, and there will be no Sinner-Alcaraz Grand Slam clash this year.
