Tennis legend Serena Williams has spoken openly about feeling nervous as she prepares for her comeback to Wimbledon, nearly four years after her retirement. The 44-year-old 23-time Grand Slam champion, who last competed at a major at the 2022 US Open, confirmed her return to the All England Club as a wildcard entry in both the women's singles and doubles draws. She will partner with her sister Venus in the doubles event.

Tennis legend Serena Williams embraces nerves ahead of dramatic Wimbledon return
In a press conference covered by BBC Sport, Williams admitted she expects the familiar butterflies. She said:
"I expect to be nervous. Every single match I've ever [played]... I've always had some nerves.”
Williams added:
"But then I just dust them off and then, you know, I move on."
The tennis legend explained the passion and care she has always brought to the court, from first rounds to finals. Williams made her initial comeback earlier this month at the HSBC Championships in London, competing in doubles. Her singles return at Wimbledon marks a significant moment for the sport, with fans eagerly anticipating her appearance on the grass courts where she has triumphed seven times.
The tournament gets underway shortly, and all eyes will be on Centre Court as one of tennis's greatest returns to the stage. With qualifiers already underway, the main draw will kick off on June 29, soon after the FIFA World Cup 2026.
