Kevin Pietersen predicts Brendon McCullum could return as KKR head coach next season.

Ajinkya Rahane-led Kolkata Knight Riders are going through a terrible run in the ongoing IPL 2026, failing to record a single win in their first six matches. Amid KKR's poor form, England's batting icon Kevin Pietersen has made an unique prediction for the three-time IPL champions.

Currently, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane and head coach Abhishek Nayar are facing tough criticism amid the franchise's horrible show in the league. According to Kevin Pieteresen, KKR might reappoint Brendon McCullum as their head coach for the next season. Currently, McCullam is working with the England men's cricket team.

KKR's poor show in IPL 2026

After the loss against GT, Ajinkya Rahane admitted that it's tough to lose so many games, and gave importance to keep putting efforts with positive intent, saying everyone wants to win.

“We’re thinking one game at a time, it’s tough when you lose games, but everyone is trying their best. No one wants to lose any match — we all want to win — but that’s what sport is all about… keep your heads up. For us, it’s about going out there, being positive, and playing with freedom. We’ve got nothing to lose," said Rahane at the post-match press conference.

Rahane further said that everyone in the team is working really hard to entertain the fans and the people of Kolkata. He further revealed that discussions are going on how to improve the team's performance on the field.

“Let me tell you one thing: everyone is working really hard. For us, it’s all about playing for our fans and the people of Kolkata, and we’re trying to do our best. After each and every game, there’s discussion about how we can improve. Obviously, when you lose, you tend to think about combinations and the areas we can get better at, so the discussion is always on," added Rahane.

KKR's next challenge

Currently, the Kolkata-based franchise is reeling at the bottom of the points table with only one point in hand after failing to secure a single win in six matches. The only point came because of a washed out game against Punjab Kings.

KKR will face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their upcoming fixture on Sunday, April 19 at the Eden Garden in Kolkata.
