KKR will face MI in their IPL 2026 campaign opener

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have roped in Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. Standing at an imposing 6 ft 8”, the right-arm fast bowler has built a reputation as Zimbabwe’s premier pace threat in T20 cricket. His height allows him to extract awkward, steep bounce that troubles even the most seasoned batters, making him a dangerous asset during the Powerplay and at the death.

Blessing Muzarabani in KKR squad

Muzarabani arrives in the KKR camp with an impressive statistical profile and extensive international pedigree. He has secured over 90 wickets in more than 80 T20 Internationals, maintaining a sharp average of approximately 21 and boasting career-best figures of 3/8. This blend of raw pace and consistency, honed across various global T20 leagues, provides the two-time champions with significant tactical depth as they finalize their pace battery for the upcoming campaign.

Muzarabani’s stock has risen sharply following a stellar performance in the recent T20 World Cup held in India. The pacer was a force to be reckoned with, claiming 13 wickets throughout the tournament and earning a prestigious spot in the ICC Team of the Tournament. His standout moment came against Australia, where his clinical figures of 4/17 spearheaded a historic victory over the 2021 champions, a result that propelled Zimbabwe into the Super 8s.

KKR will look to channel that winning energy as they kick off their IPL 2026 campaign against the Mumbai Indians on Sunday, March 29. Following this high-stakes opener, the Knights will return to their fortress at Eden Gardens for a crucial three-game home stretch in April. During this period, they are scheduled to host Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants in quick succession.

This upcoming season represents a vital opportunity for redemption after a lackluster 2025 performance. Despite entering that year as defending champions, KKR struggled with consistency in all departments, ultimately finishing eighth on the table with only five wins. The inability to build momentum led to an early exit, but under the continued leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, the squad is determined to regroup and restore the franchise's winning reputation.
