PBKS defeated SRH by six wickets.

Shreyas Iyer scored 69 off 33 balls.

Punjab Kings produced a confident batting effort to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets in a high-scoring IPL game on Saturday.

Chasing a tough target of 220, Punjab got off to a perfect start. Priyansh Arya came out attacking from the first ball and smashed 57 off just 20 deliveries. At the other end, Prabhsimran Singh played with the same intent, scoring 51 off 25 balls. The two added 99 runs for the opening wicket and made the chase look much easier early on.

Iyer led from the front

After their dismissals, captain Shreyas Iyer took charge of the innings. He stayed calm but kept the scoreboard moving, finishing unbeaten on 69 off 33 balls. Nehal Wadhera couldn’t do much and made 14, but Shashank Singh played a handy cameo of 16 off 9 balls and hit the winning runs as Punjab reached 223 for 4 with balls to spare.

For Hyderabad, Shivang Kumar was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Harsh Dubey chipped in with one, but the total proved difficult to defend.

SRH's batting

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad had put up 219 for 6, thanks mainly to a brilliant innings from Abhishek Sharma. He was in top form, scoring 74 off just 28 balls with five fours and eight sixes.

He and Travis Head (38 off 23) gave the team a flying start, adding 120 runs in a little over eight overs. The two dominated the power play and put Punjab under early pressure.

Abhishek reached his half-century in just 18 balls and kept attacking, while Head supported him well with regular boundaries. However, once both openers were dismissed, Hyderabad lost some momentum.

Heinrich Klaasen tried to keep things going with a 39-run knock, and Ishan Kishan added 27, but wickets at regular intervals meant they couldn’t push much beyond 220.

In the end, despite a strong start from Hyderabad, Punjab’s solid top order and composed finish ensured a well-earned win.

Brief scores:

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 219/6 in 20 overs (Abhishek Sharma 74, Heinrich Klaasen 39; Shashank Singh 2/20).

Punjab Kings: 223 for 4 in 18.5 overs (Priyansh Arya 57, Prabhsimran Singh 51, Shreyas Iyer 69 not out; Shivang Kumar 3/33).
