Akeal Hosein stars as MI slump to eighth after 103-run loss.

Mumbai Indians (MI) had to face a massive loss against their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings by 103 runs in their IPL 2026 game on Thursday, April 23 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Apart from the lop-sided game, one moment that grabbed everyone's attention was verbal spat between CSK's Jamie Overton and MI's star batter Tilak Varma.

The incident took place when Overton bowled the final delivery of the 10th over, Tilak securing a quick single but initially called for two with Suryakumar Yadav turning down the call.

With Overton moving across after his follow-through, Tilak seemed unhappy as he wasn't able to sight fielders saying his vision had been obstructed.

“I can’t see the fielder,” said Tilak to Overton.

In response, Overton sent an aggressive reply to Tilak, with Suryakumar joining the heated argument while defending his teammate. With the tension growing, the on-field umpire had to intervene to separate the players and the play resumed shortly.

Later Tilak Varma lost his wicket after scoring 27 off 29 balls on Akeal Hosein's delivery, his innings consisted of five fours with a strike rate of 127.59. Interestingly, Tilak was coming after a great game against Gujarat Titans, where he scored his maiden IPL century off just 45 deliveries.

Mumbai Indians' flop show in IPL 2026

After losing against CSK, the Hardik Pandya-led side sit at the eight place in the table with just four points in hand after playing seven matches in IPL 2026 at a net run rate of -0.736.

It will be interesting to see if the Mumbai-based side can turn the tables in their favor to reach the playoffs just like the old times.
