The New York Yankees kept their World Series dreams alive with a strong comeback in Game 4, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-4 at Yankee Stadium. Anthony Volpe’s third-inning grand slam sparked the Yankees’ offense, helping them avoid a series sweep. The Dodgers still lead the series 3-1, and no team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to win the World Series, but the Yankees are aiming to rewrite history.

Dodgers were quick enough to tackle Freddie

The Dodgers seemed to be in control early when Freddie Freeman, who has homered in every game of the series, hit another two-run homer in the first inning, reminiscent of his performances in previous games. Gleyber Torres almost replied with a hit down the right-field line, but Dodgers' Mookie Betts made a clean catch before a fan interference incident ruled Torres out.

With a depleted starting rotation, the Dodgers used a "bullpen game," sharing pitching duties among relievers. Although the Yankees initially struggled with runners in scoring positions, Alex Verdugo drove in a run in the second inning. Volpe then electrified the stadium with his two-out grand slam, pushing the Yankees into a 5-2 lead.

The Dodgers fought back, narrowing the gap to 5-4 with a solo homer from Will Smith and another RBI from Freeman. Austin Wells, however, restored the Yankees’ lead with a home run in the sixth inning, and the Yankees broke away in the eighth. Volpe scored on an infield hit, Torres added a three-run homer, and even Aaron Judge contributed an RBI, ensuring Game 5 would take place on Wednesday back in New York.

Freeman's impact

"Freeman's impact on the series has been phenomenal," especially as he had a sprained ankle in September, leading to doubts about his World Series availability. Manager Dave Roberts rested Freeman during three playoff games to manage his injury. Freeman’s grand slam in Game 1 was reminiscent of Kirk Gibson’s legendary walk-off homer in 1988, despite an ankle injury. Freeman has now hit homers in six consecutive World Series games, surpassing George Springer’s previous record of five.
