The Los Angeles Lakers have emerged as one of the major NBA finals candidates in the Western Conference. They've been playing incredibly well since their blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks to acquire Luka Doncic. Despite LeBron James' absence due to a groin injury, the Lakers have continued to win basketball games. They've lost a couple along the way, but Los Angeles has the talent to make a postseason run.
One of the most pressing questions about the team is the center position.
Prior to the deadline, the Lakers agreed to a trade with the Charlotte Hornets to acquire Mark Williams. That transaction was called off after Los Angeles discovered flaws in Williams' physical.
Dwight Howard has been mentioned in rumors as a possible alternative for the last games of the regular season and the playoffs.
While speculations have circulated, Howard has stated unequivocally that he is not interested in reuniting with the Lakers.
According to TMZ Sports, Howard will not return to Los Angeles, and the Lakers have expressed no interest in calling him.
"Lakers not calling me, brother," Howard said.
He also said that he remains ready to play, but that he is happy spending more time with his family away from the game.
"I'm always ready," he said, "but there's more to life than basketball."
Howard put together a strong 18-year NBA career. He averaged 15.7 points per game to go along with 11.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks.
