Ishan Kishan stamped his authority with the bat and cracked a stellar knock in the second ODI against Afghanistan in Lucknow on June 17. He played a perfect second ally with captain Shubman Gill, helping India tighten their grip on the second ODI against Afghanistan at Ekana Cricket Stadium. Coming to the crease following the dismissal of Rohit Sharma, Kishan settled in quickly. He stitched together a massive partnership with Gill, keeping India's innings firmly on track after an initially aggressive start from the senior opener.

India had found themselves at 96/2 when Rashid Khan dismissed Rohit for a brisk 48 off 39 balls. With the hosts needing stability in the middle overs, Kishan joined forces with Gill. The duo ensured there were no further hiccups, comfortably guiding India past the 180-run mark inside 27 overs while maintaining a healthy run rate.

Kishan's sublime innings finally came to an end in the 37th over when Nangeyalia Kharoti broke the mammoth 224-run partnership. Looking to continue his assault, the left-hander went on the back foot to pull a short delivery, but the ball stayed slightly low. Failing to get the desired timing, his mistimed shot ballooned toward deep midwicket, where substitute fielder Ikram Alikhil ran in to complete a fine reverse-cup catch.

Kishan departed after a scintillating 125 runs off just 79 balls, an aggressive knock studded with 14 fours and seven sixes. His dismissal left India in a commanding position at 320 runs with more than 10 overs still left to play in the innings. With this spectacular performance, the left-hander also crossed the milestone of 1,000 ODI runs in his 26th innings, firmly placing his name alongside some of the country's elite ODI batters.
