England Test captain Ben Stokes criticised the ultraedge technology as DRS for caught behind against Australia opener Jake Weatherald did not go visitors way on Day 5 of Sydney Test. Stokes feels that it should have been given out as there was a noise when the ball passed Weatherald’s bat.
“This one here, I just thought was out,” Stokes told the reporters in post-match press conference. “There was a noise, a frame after the ball obviously passes the bat ... so it should have been given out.
“Where has the consistency gone? I just don’t get it. Why do we not use the same technology all around the world?”

Stokes acknowledged that technology lapses are not behind England’s Ashes defeat but wants the International Cricket Council (ICC) to take an action and maintain uniformity in the technology used in games across in all parts of the globe.
“This kind of stuff shouldn’t be spoken about, because that’s not the reason why we’ve lost [the series] 4-1, but the fact that it keeps on coming up ... something should be done about it. Just use the same technology everywhere just so we don’t have to sit up here and have these conversations,” Stokes added.
The incident took place in the seventh over of Australia's run chase of 160 on Day 5. After the review did not yield a favourable result for England, pacer Brydon Carse had a heated exchange with Weatherald. Carse had a few words to say to umpire Ahsan Raza as well. But, Stokes intervened and was seen having an animated chat with Raza himself.
Weatherald was batting on 16 when the review went his way. He went on to score crucial 34 runs from 40 balls. Eventually, he was dismissed by Josh Tongue's bouncer just before the lunch break.
Weatherald disappoints in debut Test series
Meanwhile, Weatherald did not live up to expectations in his debut Test series. From 10 innings, he managed to score 201 runs at a dismal average of 22.33. He scored just one fifty in the series.
While Australia’s next Test series is several months away, a discussion on Weatherald’s place in the side will certainly take place. After a two-Test series against Bangladesh at home, Australia will tour South Africa for a three-Test series.
