Pakistan's one of the match-winners in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final, left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir believes that Mohammad Rizwan-led side has an upper hand over Rohit Sharma's India ahead of their high-voltage clash. As there is uncertainty over Jasprit Bumrah's participation in the mega event, Amir believes India's pace strength is reduced to 50 to 50 per cent.
"It will be a huge loss to India if Bumrah isn't there. He has been a top bowler for India, leading the pack from the front. Without him, the Indian bowling attack is reduced to 40-50 percent of its strength," Amir told Times of India.
As reported by Sports Tak, Bumrah is likely to be named in the Champions Trophy 2025 squad but may miss the group stage matches including the clash against Pakistan on February 23.
The 32-year-old pacer who announced his retirement from international cricket last month said that the Indian team is under pressure as they are facing criticism after defeats in Australia, at home against New Zealand and in Sri Lanka. He pointed out that Pakistan is high on spirits having beat Australia and South Africa away from home leading up to Champions Trophy 2025.
"The way Pakistan has played recently — defeating Australia in Australia and then beating South Africa — shows their strength, especially in overseas conditions. Considering their recent performances, I think Pakistan will have the upper hand against India. However, India has always been my favorite in big tournaments. But the Indian team is under pressure and facing severe criticism due to their recent defeats," he added.
Pakistan wait on crucial update on Ayub's injury
India and Pakistan have been placed in Group A which also features Bangladesh and New Zealand. India are yet to announce their provisional squad for the Champions Trophy. Each team can make changes to the squad till February 12, one week before the tournament kicks off with Pakistan taking on New Zealand. While India are waiting on Bumrah's fitness, Pakistan have not announced their squad due to Saim Ayub's ankle injury.
Preparatory series for India and Pakistan before Champions Trophy
