India won the ICC Champions Trophy after defeating New Zealand by four wickets in the final. The victory ended India's lengthy wait for the ICC 50-over championship. India was devastated when it lost to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, but it exacted revenge by defeating them in the Champions Trophy semifinal. Both Indian cricket players and fans were beaming after the victory.

Given India's dismal Test results against Australia and New Zealand, Rohit was under pressure going into the Champions Trophy, but the format change brought out the best in him. Throughout the competition, the Indian skipper led from the front and gave the squad explosive starts in each match, putting India ahead. He reserved his best for the final, when he helped India win with a spectacular 76-run knock.

There were speculations that Rohit might retire after the ICC Champions Trophy but the Indian captain put the rumours to rest. "I am not going to retire from this format. Just to make sure no rumours are spread moving forward. Koi future plan hai nahi, jo chal raha hai chalega (there is no future plan, whatever is going on will continue as it is)," Rohit Sharma said.

Rohit also praised the team's outstanding performance in the ICC Champions Trophy.

"Let's see. It is a great team achievement for the team to win two ICC trophies and to go undefeated is the icing on the cake. I have seen very few teams that have won two tournaments undefeated. For us, the most important thing was that we come here and prepared and played the opposition. We used the conditions well and won. Future plan... there's no future plan, whatever is happening will keep happening," he added.
