Birmingham Commonwealth Games' bronze-medallist wrestler Pooja Sihag's husband Ajay Nandal was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Sunday (August 29) near Jat College in Rohtak.

As per the reports, Ajay Nandal's body had been sent for post-mortem for further examination. Ajay was also a national level wrestler himself.

The father of the deceased has alleged a drug overdose involving Ajay’s friend Ravi. The incident reportedly took place near Maharani Kishori Jat Kanya Mahavidyalaya, according to the deputy superintendent of police Mahesh Kumar.

"Ajay Nandal's body was sent for post-mortem. His father has alleged a drug overdose involving Ajay's friend Ravi. The incident took place near Maharani Kishori Jat Kanya Mahavidyalaya," DSP said.

In his complaint to the police, victim’s father Bijender Singh said his son had left the house around 11 am on Saturday and told them that he was going to attend his friend’s birthday party at Dev Colony.

Indian wrestler Pooja Sihag clinched the bronze medal in the Women's Freestyle 76kg category final after delivering a dominant performance against Australia's Naomi de Bruine in Commonwealth Games 2022.

In his police complaint, Bijender said Ajay came to Rohtak from Delhi on Friday night and went out on Saturday morning in his car to attend his friend’s birthday party in Dev Colony here. “In the evening, we received a call that Ajay had been admitted to a private hospital in Rohtak. When my younger son and I reached there, the doctors told us that Ajay had died. We came to know that two other youngsters — Ravi and Sonu, alias Luka, of Sultanpur (Hisar) — were also with Ajay. Ravi gave my son overdose of a drug, leading to his death,” he alleged.

The deceased family is not satisfied with the way this case is being handled as it's been five days since Pooja's husband's death and the post-mortem reports are still awaited.

Raising questions on her husband's suspicious death, Pooja said, 'It’s been 5 days since the death. The post-mortem report is yet to be received. How can one be accused of drug use without any report. I am not here as a medal winning wrestler but as a daughter and I want justice. My husband died and we want to know the truth about what happened to him?"
