Hashmatullah Shahidi's match awareness impressed the commentators.

Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi's game awareness while batting led to a no ball followed by a free hit in the 22nd over of the innings. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma did not get his field placement right and paid the price of it. Shahidi first hit a boundary and told the umpire about it to get a free hit next delivery.

The incident took place in the 22nd over of Afghanistan's innings. Shahidi was facing Ravindra Jadeja. He went for a slogsweep but the outside-edge went wide of short third man and raced towards the boundary.

After the boundary, Shahidi walked up to umpire Michael Gough and pointed out that there are only four fielders inside the crease. The umpire took note of him and signalled a no ball.

However, the no ball did not turn out to be costly for Team India. Shahdi went for a big shot but could not clear the mid-off fielder who took the catch. Shahidi managed to take just a single off the free hit delivery.

It is not clear whether it was the fielder’s mistake that he was not inside the 30-yard circle or Rohit made a mistake in his field placement.

Earlier, Shahidi won the toss and opted to bat first at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. After the top-order batters could not go on to get big score. He shared a 121-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Azatullah Omarzai. The 28-year-old was the top scorer for Afghanistan with 80 runs from 88 balls including eight fours and one six.

He missed his maiden World Cup century as Kuldeep Yadav dismissed him in the 43rd over of the innings. Shahidi went for a reverse sweep but missed the ball and got out leg before wicket. He opted for DRS as well but the decision was not reversed. Shahidi’s 80-run knock is the highest score by an Afghan batter against India in World Cup.

Earlier, Shahidi in the pre-match press conference had said that their collapse against Bangladesh spinners was unfortunate. He feels that Afghan batters play better spinners in the nets.
