Speaking exclusively with Sports Tak, Harbhajan said that either Ishan Kishan or Suryakumar Yadav should play as a pure batter in the game against New Zealand while Mohammed Shami should replace Shardul Thakur.

"The fitness of Hardik Pandya holds significant importance for the Indian cricket team. His presence in the squad defines our team's composition, and if he is unavailable, adjustments will be necessary. In such a scenario, we have the option of including either Ishan Kishan or Suryakumar Yadav as specialist batsmen. Currently, Shardul Thakur is part of the team due to his all-round capabilities. However, it might be advisable to consider Mohammed Shami as a replacement in his position, as Shami can provide a reliable ten-over bowling spell," said Harbhajan.

Hardik Pandya injury

During the ODI World Cup match against Bangladesh on October 19th at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, Team India and its supporters were left concerned when Hardik had to abruptly leave the field. This happened during the 9th over of Bangladesh's innings, and incidentally, it was Hardik's first over. While trying to intercept the ball using his foot, he slipped, leading to an alarming injury to his left foot.

Teammates, especially Virat Kohli, immediately came to his aid, helping him stand. The distress was evident on Hardik's face, and he avoided putting pressure on his injured foot. The team's physiotherapist swiftly attended to him, applying substantial support to his shin and ankle after a significant pause in the game.

Despite receiving on-field treatment, Hardik's attempt at a trial run showed he was still in immense pain. After bowling only three balls and conceding two boundaries, he chose to head back to the pavilion for further medical attention.
