Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had a hilarious reaction to Shreyas Iyer’s century at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against New Zealand in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. Iyer reached his century from just 67 balls to equal head coach Rahul Dravid's feat of two consecutive World Cups which is only bettered by Rohit.
Iyer reached his century in the 48th over with a single off Tim Southee. As Gill took off his helmet to raise his bat, the dressing room gave him a standing ovation. Moments later, it was followed by a hilarious moment in the dressing room. Rohit imitated Iyer's celebration. It amused Kuldeep Yadav, opener Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav who were standing beside him.

Iyer's 67-ball hundred is also the fastest in a World Cup knockout match. The previous record belonged to former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist who reached his century from 72 balls against Sri Lanka in the 2007 World Cup.
Iyer came in to bat in the 23rd over when Gill retired hurt. Iyer hit a six off the seventh ball he faced. In the middle overs, he took the pressure off Virat Kohli. He reached his half-century from 35 balls in the 37th over.
In the penultimate over, he was dismissed by Trent Boult. The left-arm pacer took the pace off and Iyer could not clear the long-off fielder Daryl Mitchell. He scored 105 runs from 70 balls featuring four fours and eight sixes.
His knock helped India post 397/4 on the board after Rohit won the toss and opted to bat first. Apart from Iyer, Kohli scored 117 runs from 113 balls. Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most centuries in ODIs. Also, Gill remained unbeaten for 80 off 66 balls after he returned to bat in the slog overs. KL Rahul provided the acceleration with his unbeaten 20-ball 39 to post a mammoth score on the board.
Iyer also became the third Indian batter to score 500 or more runs in the ongoing World Cup. He has scored 526 runs from 10 innings at an average of 75.15 including two centuries and three half-centuries. Also, his strike rate is 150.
