Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a major change in India’s T20 World Cup squad. Shardul Thakur has been promoted from the reserves to the main squad replacing left-arm spinner Axar Patel. BCCI revealed in a press release that the change has been made after a discussion between All-India Senior Selection Committee and the team management.

BCCI has also announced that Avesh Khan, Umran Malik, Harshal Patel, Lukman Meriwala, Venkatesh Iyer, Karn Sharma, Shahbaz Ahmed and K. Gowtham will be joining the bio-bubble in Dubai to assist the team in preparations for the mega event. Express fast bowler Malik impressed everyone with his express pace whereas Harshal got rewarded for his consistent record-equalling run in the tournament.

Thakur has been in red-hot form in the second phase of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder has taken 13 wickets from eight games in the second leg. The 29-year-old has not got much chance to bat of late but he was impressive against England in the Test series hitting two half-centuries.

Virat Kohli & Co will open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24. Before that, India will take on England and Australia in their two warm-up matches on October 18 & October 10 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi respectively ahead of the T20 World Cup.
